SZABO Landscape Architecture transformed a compact front yard into a highly functional outdoor living environment. SZABO Landscape Architecture shaped the compact Three Pines residence site into a series of modern outdoor rooms that extend the home’s architecture and celebrate the owner’s extensive art collection. Working collaboratively with architect, the design emphasizes clean lines, orthogonal planting layouts, and a restrained, contemporary plant palette to match the home’s crisp forms while still providing warmth and seasonal interest.ironment organized as a series of distinct yet connected rooms. The design responds directly to the family’s desire for everyday usability, carving out dedicated spaces for dining, lounging around a fire pit, and a small, flexible lawn suitable for casual play and games.
Art integration served as a primary driver of the landscape concept. A large violet concrete sphere set within a field of grasses is sited along a central view corridor so it can be experienced simultaneously from the front entry and rear patio, establishing a visual link through the house. In the backyard, a custom backlit, powder‑coated metal art backdrop defines an intimate outdoor gallery space, creating a dramatic focal point for evening use and a curated setting for additional sculptural pieces.
Careful detailing reinforces the project’s modern character at every scale, from the precise geometry of paving and steps to the uniquely crafted fencing that frames the property. Plant masses are organized in bold, simple bands and blocks, allowing architectural features and artwork to remain visually prominent while softening edges and grounding the residence in its Three Pines context. The result is a tightly composed, art‑forward landscape where architecture, planting, and sculpture are experienced as a single, unified composition.
