SZABO Landscape Architecture partnered with Arrowood Development to help shape Tartan Druim, a gated “neighborhood within a neighborhood” inside the Tetherow Golf Course community in Bend, Oregon. With its expansive views of the Cascades, golf course, and surrounding high desert, the property sets the stage for a resort-caliber outdoor living experience.
For each lot, SZABO provided full landscape design and documentation services, collaborating with home buyers and the builder to tailor outdoor spaces (such as patios, terraces, fire features, outdoor kitchens, spas, play areas, planting, irrigation, grading, and drainage) to individual lifestyles while meeting neighborhood and resort standards. A consistent palette of regionally appropriate materials and drought-tolerant plantings links these custom landscapes together so the neighborhood feels like a cohesive enclave.
At the community scale, SZABO designed the stone-and-metal entry monument and streetscape planting to establish a clear sense of arrival and reinforce Tartan Druim’s identity within Tetherow. In the heart of the neighborhood, design work for Tartan Place, the community park and clubhouse, organizes amenities such as the event kitchen, barbecue areas, fire pit, bocce courts, and expansive lawn into a connected sequence of outdoor rooms that support everyday use and larger gatherings. Together, these services and strategies create a unified landscape framework in which each residence enjoys a personalized outdoor environment, yet every element contributes to a distinctive, mountain-modern community character.
